M.P. South MumbaiIndian National Congress
Milind Deora is among the youngest ever to enter Parliament. Elected in April 2004 from Mumbai South, India’s most coveted Lok Sabha constituency, he represents the Indian National Congress.
He completed a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Boston University and entered into politics with his mission of making Mumbai a world class city. He founded SPARSH, an NGO, and launched programmes for the benefit of the underprivileged in South Mumbai. These include adoption of fund starved schools; free computer education in over 100 schools; free scholarships; distribution of uniforms, textbooks and notebooks to needy schoolchildren; donation of water coolers to these institutions and regular ‘eye camps’ to help the visually challenged.
To hone his business skills, he entered the Indian Merchants’ Chamber and was soon elected Chairman of its Young Entrepreneurs’ Wing which constantly interfaces with the business community and the government for tackling key issues on the national economic agenda such as the budget. As a Parliamentarian he is an appointed Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence; Nominated Member of Consultative Committee on Defence Matters; Member of the Indo-US Parliamentarians’ Forum and Member of the Indo-German Parliamentarians’ Forum.
